Ken Simpson, Founder and CEO
Ken first experienced the excitement and magic of software when his father brought home one of the first IBM PCs in 1980, teaching him how to write simple programs in BASIC. Since then, he has combined his passion for software with entrepreneurism, founding or participating as an early-stage employee in four successful startups in a broad range of technical areas including Voice-over-IP, Wireless Internet, and of course anti-spam. Ken has a First Class Honors degree in Computer Engineering from Simon Fraser University and Santa Clara University. At the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG), Ken splits his time running the botnet and web abuse sub-committees, as well as assisting in the work of the outbound abuse sub-committee.
Mike Smith, Director of Development
Mike Smith has managed productive development teams at numerous successful startups for over ten years. As one of the first developers hired at ActiveState, Mike was instrumental in designing and developing the highly successful PerlMX email security product, which attracted computer security pioneer Sophos to purchase the company. At ActiveState, Mike was also responsible for implementing key initiatives in e-commerce, licensing, and customer support.
Scott McKay, Senior Developer
Previously with SAP Business Objects, where he worked on cloud applications as part of a rigorously managed development team, Scott leads the development of MailChannels Outbound Relay™. Scott has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Physics (Computer Science Option) from the University of British Columbia.
Desmond Liao, Director of Marketing
Desmond is responsible for demand generation and marketing communications. Previously, he held positions at Hoggan & Associates, a leading public relations agency representing clients such as SAP Business Objects and Electronic Arts Canada. Earlier, he managed Community Relations for OMNI TV (formerly Channel M). Desmond has a B.A. from Simon Fraser University, Dean’s Honor Roll, and is an alumnus of Leaders of Tomorrow by the Vancouver Board of Trade.

Eric Winsborrow, Director
Eric Winsborrow was the VP of Product Marketing for McAfee, where he conceived and executed the most successful launch in company history, "Total Protection Solutions," repositioning the company from anti-virus to security risk management. Eric also held executive positions at security companies, including Symantec, Sygate, and Cloudmark, and unified communications vendors Cisco, Lucent and Nortel.
Will Whittaker, Co-Founder and Director
Computer security expert and developer Will Whittaker, brings 10 years of computer security leadership to MailChannels. As an early employee at ActiveState, Will was one of the initial developers of PerlMX, which later became the industry leading PureMessage anti-spam solution. In 2003, ActiveState was acquired by Sophos, a leading developer of security software and hardware. Mr. Whittaker is a published author and guest speaker at numerous international conferences including the O'Reilly Open Source Conference. For many years, Will has been a key organizer of the annual CanSecWest security conference, a world-renowned event for computer security professionals.

Sales Engineer
Based in Vancouver, Canada.
MailChannels develops outbound email filtering software aimed at the largest ISPs and cloud hosts in the world. We grew our revenues 63% last year and are profitable and on track to triple our sales in 2012. Backed by tier-1 angel investors from Vancouver and Seattle, and with a growing list of tier-1 customers, we're looking for someone who can both cut code in an agile environment and interface with global customers and prospects to move projects forward and provide fanatical support.
Job Description
The successful Sales Engineer must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users, develop implementation plans, assist with deployment and work with customers to resolve issues throughout all phases of the deployment process.
Sales Engineers are the primary technical resource for the field sales force. They are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our products. The Sales Engineer must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users, and be able to identify all technical issues of assigned accounts to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the deployment process. Another important requirement is to establish and maintain strong personal relationships with buyers throughout the sales cycle.
Responsibilities
- Development and delivery of product demonstrations
- Representing the product to customers and at field events such as conferences, seminars, etc.
- Responding to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
- Conveying customer requirements to Product Management teams
- Primary support contact for customers with support issues
- Triaging customer trouble tickets to obtain more information where necessary and assisting in the development of a set of steps to reproduce the problem
- Able to travel throughout sales territory.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with a proven track record in software sales engineering and a deep knowledge of email, network and security technologies. You are comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base. You must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, and when submitting reports. You must be organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches, and must be prepared for some travel. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and experienced Sales Engineer.
- Nice To Haves:
- 3-5+ years relevant experience in vendor sales or support
- Experience and familiarity with email security
- B.S. in Computer Science or a related field
