Blocking known spam sources and content relies on continuously monitoring and updating but much of today's spam is from unknown sources and content. Their advantages include:
- A head start everytime a new campaign is launched
- Far greater computing power to generate randomized messages
- An inexhaustible supply of botnets and IP addresses
- Few limits on the number of spam messages they can send
The ability to deal quickly and effectively with these spammers is a problem - but it is a problem that traffic shaping solves.
