Why Partners use Traffic Control

MailChannels partners use Traffic Control because they recognize the value of true traffic shaping in reducing spam from unknown senders and the value of our SMTP multiplexing technology to manage and prioritize thousands of simultaneous connections.

As a connection management solution that implements content agnostic protection on the SMTP application layer between the router and typical email filtering solutions Traffic Control is ideally suited for integration with routers, load balancers, MTAs, UTMs and email gateway filters.
By implementing Traffic Control within their solutions MailChannels offers our partners the ability to add SMTP multiplexing and true traffic shaping in front of their email solutions.

Providing the capability to:

  • Handle 10,000+ simultaneous connections
  • Implement true traffic shaping to throttle unknown senders
  • Add reputation-based prioritization of legitimate senders
  • Gain valuable anti-spam lab response time to new threats
  • Eliminate message receive queues

Give your spam lab time

Anti-spam labs whether they be gathering reputation data, message signatures, content filtering rules or building adaptive filters all suffer from the same problem. The spammers have a headstart. No matter how comprehensive their data or large their spamtraps it is impossible for the labs to know where the next spam campaign is coming from or what it will look like before the spam is sent. Its is race and the spammer always gets to go first. No matter what there will always some lag time between when the spam campaign begins and when the anti-spam lab can turn their visibility of the campaign into data they can use to protect their customers.

The labs keep getting faster but zero is not possible. But what if the labs always had two minutes, or even 60 seconds. Those are achievable targets.

In fact the best labs are already delivering updates today within 90 seconds. In the anti-spam world 2 minutes is a lot of spam.
By delaying messages from unknown senders, Traffic Control gives our OEM partners the time their labs need to respond, eliminating the dips in effectiveness and the outbreaks that otherwise occur with each new spam campaign.

Improve scalability

MailChannels email gateway OEM partners benefit from the scalability improvement features of Traffic Control in three ways:

  • Increasing the number of simultaneous connections the system can handle from 100 or so with standard MTAs to 10,000+ simultaneous connections with Traffic Control means fewer messages are bounced or rejected and legitimate mail is no longer crowded out by spam messages.
  • Decreasing by 75% the volume of messages that need to be scan using processor intensive content scanning by eliminating more messages at the connection layer than reputation-based solutions.
  • Eliminating the need to receive to disk and queue messages for processing by multiplexing all connections in memory rather than queueing and then rejecting messages.
